Daily use has turned our Android devices, both smartphones and tablets, into small external disks where we tend to accumulate large amounts of content that end up cluttering our small portable devices. Droid Transfer lets you move content from your Android devices to any PC in an effortless and straightforward way, not only to make space for new files but also as a backup solution for your music, images, contacts, chats, etc.

Installing the app is simple enough, though it gets a bit tricky when it comes to setting up your phone so that it can be “seen” by Droid Transfer. Luckily, the program offers you truly clear explanations on how to do it, both in its splash window and on its official site (QR code for quick access included!). You will have to go through all the unavoidable “developer” settings to make your device visible, and that is true not only for this tool but for any phone-to-PC software tool out there. What I found uncommon is that the program requires you to install Transfer Companion on your Android device before even trying to connect to Droid Transfer. I have to admit that the whole thing worked like a charm, but it is the first time I’ve been asked to install a tool like that on my phone to connect it to my PC, and I’m not sure I liked that, even though it is a free tool that you can easily download from your Play Store.

Droid Transfer does not limit itself to moving files from one Android device to a PC or laptop. In that sense, it cannot be considered just a backup tool for your smartphone or tablet – actually, it allows you to get into your device and manage its contents using a clear and elegant interface and the keyboard and mouse of your computer instead of the menus and the tiny keys of your phone. The program’s interface is really neat – it is clean and clear, with the main menu on the left-hand side that leaves most of the free space for your phone or tablet.

The overall process of transferring content between your Android device and your PC is pretty straightforward. Moving files from one place to another is not a big deal, and it is just as simple as moving or copying files between drives, so I won’t dwell on that. The great thing is that, as mentioned, you can also manage certain sections of your smartphone from your PC in a more comfortable way. Thus, you can check your contacts and remove any duplicates you may have just by checking and deleting them, or you can remove apps you haven’t used for ages.

You can manage your calendar, copy your call log, or just clean it up a bit, and even make copies of your messages to a text file on your computer. Of course, you can back up all your music and photos, and – even better – manage your photo and music collection using your mouse instead. You can see the music stored on your phone by title, artist, genre, etc., depending on how thoroughly you tagged your music.

Thus, Droid Transfer offers you a neat alternative way to manage content on your Android devices, especially when we deal with hundreds or thousands of files. You can use it to back up your excess content and make space for new stuff or just to manage your contacts or your messages in a more comfortable way. The program is not free, but it is not high-priced either.

Excellent, easy to use app. I used it to save a text message conversation which included lots of photos to a PDF. It took a while to export the file to PDF but it all converted correctly in the end. Happy I found it, the app was just what I was looking for.
